Wildspace Artist of the Year 2009

Wildspace is…

a non-profit mixed-media art project that launched for the first time at Melbourne’s Federation Square on March 20 2009; it’s continuing aim is to bring art and urban wildlife into a particular connection, its purpose to alter, over time and through the universal language of art, prevailing attitudes and practices facing native animals living on the edge of our existence, displaced and put under survival pressure in cities, suburbs and along our shorelines.

Art is a language we all understand. The artists profiled in Wildspace ‘09 share a belief in the power of art to bring about positive change and all exhibit a strong bond, expressed through individual and diverse artistic imaginations, with the animals they represent.

The animal images displayed in the inaugural Wildspace 09 exhibition are recognizably portraits of somebodies who matter and have a rightful place alongside humanity in this wild and challenging continent we all inhabit.
