MICHAEL HAS RETURNED TO AUSTRALIA after 2 months on board the 'Steve Irwin' in the southern ocean...
Michael Williams of IT'S A WILDLIFE has returned back to Australia after joining SEA SHEPHERD on board the 'STEVE IRWIN' as campaign photographer for this year's whale defense campaign in the Southern Ocean. Operation WALTZING MATILDA is the 6th campaign to the Antarctic Whale Sanctuary to intervene and shut down Japan's proposed illegal slaughter of 935 minke whales and 50 fin whales, as well as threatening to add Humpback whales to this intended quota. Michael was there to photograph all the action and moments on board, that will show the world this incredibly dedicated fight to protect these majestic species from the exploding tip harpoons of the Japanese whaling fleet. As well as this, Michael had the great opportunity to set foot on the continent of Antarctica. The mission there was to photograph the Adelie penguin colony that is home to thousands of these wonderful sea birds. Michael was also able to spend a short time on the Kerguelen Islands photographing the resident King penguins and Southern Elephant Seals that call these amazing islands home.
